As Taiwan is facing the challenges of an aging society, not only the importance of this issue cannot be ignored, but more efforts should be made to explore successful aging in order to assist the elderly in Taiwan to live a long, good and dignified life. Research on successful aging in the past mostly focused on the aspect of physical health, but it has been recently discovered that mental health and spiritual life plays an important role in successful aging in the elderly. The age of 65 either practicing or not practicing Buddhist chanting as the subjects of a questionnaire survey based on the successful aging scale. The survey results were then examined using descriptive statistical analysis, independent T-test and one-way ANOVA. Research results indicate that the practice of chanting Amitabha has a significant and positive impact on successful aging in terms of adaptation to life, social, family and friend relationships, health awareness, economy, learning as well as household. Elderly individuals practicing Buddhist chanting were more successful particularly in social, family and friend relationships, household and adaptation to life compared with those not practicing the same.
