Taiwan is an island and export and import rely on shipping. Thus, shipping related industries are important for Taiwan. This study treats shipping related industries as the research scope. Past literature on professional techniques and skills of shipping related industries is uncertain whether the cognition of respondents on questionnaire items is consistent. Thus, this study attempts to solve this problem using Rasch model, in order to construct scientific evaluation items on professional techniques and skills of shipping related industries. It further validates whether the employability in shipping related industries generalized is needed by the industries. Research findings are reorganized as employability indicators of shipping related industries. SPSS is used to conduct One-way ANOVA and cross analysis on employability expected by shipping related firms and graduates, as well as the cognition of importance of employability after work, in order to close the gap between academia and industry. The results of the suggest that: (1) employability expected by shipping related firms and graduates, are not significantly different because of the subjects’ different titles and departments of graduation but shipping related firms and graduates’ cognition of employability after work are significantly different because of the subject's different titles and working years.; (2) according to the suggestion, employability which should be reinforced by students is as follows: active working attitude and positive group interaction, general business English proficiency (TOEIC above 550), good morality and virtue , EQ emotion management and language expression (Taiwanese, mandarin, English or other languages). The findings are expected to serve as reference for shipping industry to evaluate new employees and for shipping industry related departments to plan the courses. It is suggested that students who intend to enter shipping related industries should enhance their foreign language proficiency, and concern about their working attitude, team work in workplace, virtue and personal emotion management.
