The study interviewed four SLE patients to collect texts and the texts were analyzed to four common themes with the thematic analysis method. The common theme “Illness: the accumulating and continued of pressure” was about the direct challenges and barriers of SLE patients including (a) understanding of and adjusting to illness, (b) undulating emotion, and (c) exploring for stable condition. The common theme “Challenge: the influence of intrinsic and extrinsic concerns” was about the challenges and barriers of SLE patients in their life, interpersonal relationship and career development, including (a) an effect on life and the cause of great inconvenience, (b) negative interpersonal relationships, and (c) more career concerns under illness. The common theme “Persistence: the advance and retreat of career roles” was about the career roles of SLE patients including (a) the experience and exploration during the school year, (b) work development and plan, (c) influential factors of career development, (d) adjustment and support of family relationship, and (e) the disclosure of the romantic relationship in its natural tendency. The common theme “Coping: resources of facing challenges” was about coping with the experienced difficult situations including (a) rest, exercise and leisure, (b) self-adjustment, (c) preparedness and estimation, (d) interpersonal support, and (e) desire of the heart. Based on the finding, further discussions were offered as followings: (a) Timing in falling ill and unsteady illness tend to affect SLE patients’ career development differently. (b) When health is taken into account prior to the capacity, SLE patients’ adjustment to illness shapes their career development style. (c) Coping is with three stages of trying to handle illness, regulating life, and self-acceptance. Based on the finding, some suggestions are proposed for practical workers to help SLE patients understand the illness information, learn to health management and face illness, and adjust emotions and the changes of life. In addition, practical workers can help SLE patients estimate and pursue their career goals and development under the circumstance of their illness. Huang, Su-Yun 黃素雲 2013 學位論文 ; thesis 201 zh-TW
