The static stiffness analyses include bending stiffness analysis and torsion stiffness analysis of the bus chassis and the whole bus structure. The strength of the bus structure is studied as the bus is fully loaded and subjected to a braking deceleration 0.7g. The deformation of the bus structure at curb weight is also explored under quasi-static compression load. The numerical results indicate that the bending stiffness of the bus chassis is 2801.12 N/mm. The maximum torsion stiffness of the bus chassis and the whole bus structure obtained are 3551.4 Nm/deg and 16221.95Nm/deg, respectively. The maximum deformation obtained from the bus rollover simulation is 86.67 mm, which is without any intrusion into passenger survival space. This result meets the ECE R66 regulations. The results show that the total energy absorbed by the bus structure under quasi-static compression load is about 9.4% higher than the theoretical one, which also meets the ECE R66 regulation.
