The subjects were 44 third grade students who purposefully assigned into experimental and control groups. The experimental group (age 8.36±0.49 years, height 133.97±6.49 cm, weight 33.96±8.88 kg) perform 8 weeks of 60 minutes ( 3 times a week) yoga exercise. The control group (age 8.33±0.57 years, height 133.70±8.24 cm, weight 33.71±10.01 kg) maintained regular activities without doing any yoga exercise. Two groups made the retention examination after the yoga exercise to discuss the influences of the repiratory muscles and cardiorespiratory fitness to both groups after detraining. The measured data analyzed by mix design two-way ANOVA. The results showed that after 8 weeks of yoga exercise, there are significant improvements in maximum inspiratory pressure(MIP) (80.27±20.44 cmH2O), maximum expiratory pressure (MEP) (86.36±28.71 cmH2O), forced expiratory volume in first second(FEV1) (1.63±0.24 l), FEV1/ forced vital capacity(FVC) (93.11±4.59 %), and 800 meter run-and-walk (285.90±35.55 s) among the experimental group when compared with the pretest. The MIP, MEP(86.36±28.71 cmH2O), and FEV1/FVC(93.11±4.59 %) in the post-test can also improved significantly compared with the control group. In the post-post-test, there are significant improvements in MIP(80.36±18.63 cmH2O), MEP (96.09±27.72 cmH2O), FEV1(1.64±0.25 l), and 800 meter run-and-walk (277.31±37.70 s) among the experimental group when compared with the pretest. There is no significantly change in FVC among the experimental group when compared with the post-test and post-post-test. In conclusion , 8 weeks yoga exercise can not only improve students' respiratory muscle strength and the 800 meter run-and-walk performance in the post-test and post-post-test results, but also has retention effect to the experimental group.
