Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺南大學 === 教育學系課程與教學澎湖碩士班 === 101 === Abstract The purpose of this study was to explore the current status, difficulties, and counter measured regarding the application of interactive whiteboards to elementary school teaching in Penghu County. This study used survey research methods in addition to supplementary interviews. My research sample covered 123 teachers out of 41 elementary schools at Penghu County in the year 2012. We analyzed the collected data using various statistical methods. Eventually we reached the following conclusions derived from my sample in Penghu County: 1. Two types of interactive whiteboards – physical and virtual – are adopted in classrooms. 2. Interactive whiteboards are mostly applied to Chinese and math teaching. 3. Most materials adopted by school teachers to support interactive whiteboards are either existent teaching materials or electronic books from publishers. 4. The most frequent use of interactive whiteboards is to demonstrate teaching materials, with combination of multi-media objects to stimulate students’ learning motives and their interactions with teachers. 5. 60% of school teachers have applied interactive whiteboards to teaching for more than a year. Most of them are teachers who teach more than five periods per week and employ interactive whiteboards for more than 30 minutes in each period. 6. Teachers in my sample overall possess positive perceptions of employing interactive whiteboards in teaching. 7. Difficulties with respect to using interactive whiteboards for teaching include the lack of teaching materials, interruptions due to software and hardware glitches, uneasy equipment maintenance, time-consuming class design, and low resolution of images. 8. The recommendations for improving the aforementioned issues include increasing the number of software and hardware equipments for interactive whiteboards, hosting corresponding education training for users, supplying holistic teaching packages and accessible databases, allocating professional workers to provide in-time technical support, and providing funds for subsequent equipment maintenance. According to the conclusions, I provide solutions as well as suggestions to the education administration and school officials, and directions for future research. Keywords: interactive whiteboard
