In addition to having a deeper understanding of Hakka culture, we are also intent to combine the moralizing function of Hakka proverbs with the currently popular education topic–character education. Specifically, we would like to integrate character education into dialects education. This study collects Hakka proverbs on moral education and categorizes them into 17 classes according to the moral core values as defined in the “Character education implementation project” of department of education, Taipei city government. The 17 classes are further grouped into three subcategories: one-to-oneself, one-to-others, and one-to-society. We first define the core values of each subcategory, and then list relevant proverbs. For some abstruse proverbs, semantics explanation or annotation is provided for reference. This paper is divided into five chapters. Chapter one, introduction, presents the background, motivation and purpose of this study; states the unsolved problems; identifies the scope and limitation of this study; explains the terminology. Chapter two, literature review, gives the definition of proverbs, discusses documents on Hakka proverbs and/or character education. Chapter three, research design and implementation, provides information on methodology, procedure, and data procession. Chapter four, results and discussion, classifies Hakka proverbs into three subcategories and analyzes proverbs in each subcategories in detail. Chapter five, conclusions and suggestions, summarizes the results, states conclusions, and provides concrete suggestions for future researchers. Li-Gang Chiou 丘立崗 2013 學位論文 ; thesis 153 zh-TW
