碩士 === 國立臺北教育大學 === 語文與創作學系碩士班 === 101 === This thesis studies a film series created by George Lucas : Star Wars. The film series comprises six Episodes, I: The Phantom Menace, II: Attack of the Clones, III: Revenge of the Sith, IV: A New Hope, V: The Empire Strikes Back and VI: Return of the Jedi. This thesis uses the mythological theory to discuss heroes and narrative structures in Star Wars, analyze the Anakin Skywalker's "Hero's Journey", and explore the meaning of symbols, archetypes and structures in stories. This thesis also explore the mythological of Star Wars films and its effect. According to Joseph Campbell's "hero's journey", Anakin's life as birth, growth, adventure and his success, arrogance and corruption almost completely match the 12 steps in hero's journey. The six episodes created by George Lucas reconstruct the structure of ancient epic and myth. Lucas's outstanding breakthrough is adding the second return, as Anakin being from hero to cannibal father and back again. Unlike conventional myth archetypes, he takes a different approach in Star Wars, and then adds the new chapter to modern myth. This thesis collates films and scripts in Star Wars movies, discusses the hero's journey, crisis and Lucas's creativity, and analyzes its archetypal meaning, myth purport and Biblical images.
