He was an unknow Chinese participant of Korean War then unexpectedly became a Chinese communist defectors in Taiwan, and father of the author of this research. During his seventy three years of life span, Mr. Chen’s nationality was forced to change into Republic of China from People’s Republic of China due to the torrent of history. This research does not only show Mr. Chen’s personal human conditions, but also reflects conditions of the whole nation through certain time period. The methodology of this research is different from the traditional academic approach of history study. Via examing “his story,” this thesis aims to analyze and discourse the identity conflicts, war experiences, and the affections resulted from diaspora in Mr. Chen’s life. Born in 1931 at a rural village in Mainland China, Mr. Chen was a poor farmer, but he became a soldier of Korean War accidently and fought with United States under the Mainland China’s communist policy. In the long run, it lead Mr. Chen to the land of Taiwan and became a Chinese communist defectors. However, Mr. Chen remained his identity as a national of the Republic of China but not a Taiwanese. Therefore, Mr. Chen opposed to ideas of independant of Taiwan, and finally lead him to a homecoming trip back to China. For those people who experienced manipulated war and diaspora, it seems that demorcracy might be an unfavorable condition to them. In sum, this thesis tries to combine events took place in “his story” with what occurred simultaneously in history. It is important for the author to comprehend and explore Mr. Chen’s psychological transitions of acceptting human conditions that he encountered. It is not only a means for two generations, but also a means of redemption in his or her story. 李筱峰 2013 學位論文 ; thesis 214 zh-TW
