Those with physical disability live in the education and training centers need more support in the aspects of rehabilitation treatments, returning to their communities, etc. As an assistant alternative therapy, horticultural therapies use the plants as the media, and let the clients strike a sympathetic cord and feel touched so as to promote the benefits for their minds, their rehabilitation treatments, the activities and so on. The aim of the research is to inquire into the effects of benefits of horticultural therapy for the physically disabled in education and training centers. After literature review, the research take those who are heavily physically disabled with Physical and Mental Disability Handbook, and who agreed to join the horticultural activities simultaneously as the research objects, case study for 21 of 24 clients and 3 spare cases. Single-subject quasi-experimental design with before and after measurements is adopted. The before-and-after-measurements questionnaires of Horticultural Therapy Evaluation Scale and Horticultural Therapy Benefit Scale are used as data collection tools. The research period is from August 16th, 2012 to November lst, 2012. 12-week horticultural activities were preceded, each time with a topic, and once a week for an hour. Descriptive statistics and paired-samples T test were used to analysis data. Data analysis shows that positive effects and statistical significance differences on the participants’ physical abilities, cognitive abilities, social interactions, and emotional statuses. The questionnaires of before and after measurements of horticultural activities demonstrate the significant progresses in the factors of moods relaxation, self-achievement improvement, creativity, positive characteristic of self-ability affirmation, new friends making, and physical exercises. The research findings can be provided for the physically disabled in the same situation as an assistant therapy, promote the life-quality care of the education and training centers, and maintain good health condition of themselves.
