In earlier days, Taiwanese industries were mostly manufacturing-oriented. They created benefits by supplying quality products and cost reduction. In recent years, numerous well-known enterprises aimed at providing customers with a wide range of services, departing from the simple manufacturing model. Along with the increasing GDP, the service sector has become the driving force for Taiwanese economy. The rise of consumer awareness not only made enterprises improve their products and technologies, but prompted them into service innovation. Value production, therefore, holds the key to business survival. To raise value through better service is the main concern for government and enterprises. Most of the research on service innovation tends to look into manufacturing and service industries, relatively shedding little light on craft industry. The way craft industry employs service innovation, in an attempt to effect differentiation and higher competiveness, is what the thesis strives to investigate. The thesis adopts case study as the research method. It discusses why and how Tittot, due to service innovation, is able to enhance competiveness and lead to business success. The glassmaking industry, as the leader of craft industry, is the target for the research. The research expects to furnish the glassmaking industry with innovative concepts and developmental strategies, as could be applied to the business management. The research, by means of interviewing, observation and data collection, manages to understand Tittot service innovation. The idea of service innovation includes: 1. New Service Concepts 2. New Client Interface 3. New Service Delivery System 4. Technological Options. The conclusion holds that, in order to satisfy the demand of customers, innovative products must assume cultural elements. The industry should be devoted to membership management, various communication strategies, professionalism, the refinement of core technology, and the introduction of information technology and strategic partnerships. The research considers Tittot’s partnership with the National Palace Museum to be the key to innovation. The research data could be further developed and used for future analysis.
