Its fleeting beauty is a great inspiration to human beings' creativity and imagination in arts. Taiwan is reputed to be the "kingdom of flowers". The beauty and elegance of our local flowers is worthy of our savoring and promotion. This creation research chooses twelve representational Taiwanese flowers as the major theme of creation in combination with flower goddess' lithe and graceful image. Our creation reinterprets the image of the goddess of flowers, endowing the twelve Taiwanese goddesses of flowers with a more modernized image, and demonstrates the unprecedented visual sensation and fanciness of Taiwanese flowers.
"The goddess of flower" is a typical example of human beings' preference for personifying and deifying the Nature. In Western countries, the legend of flower goddess is derived from Greek mythology. On the other hand, the legend of flower goddess in Chinese societies is based on the observation of flowers’ blossom and withering in terms of the seasonal change and then selects some celebrities in the history or in the legends as the flower goddess of each month. Based on our research analysis, we found that the flowers represented by the twelve traditional flower goddesses do not correspond with the actual solar terms in Taiwan. In Taiwan, it is like spring all the year round and there are many species of flowers. Consequently, the beauty of flowers became too ordinary that people fail to be amazed by the beauty of the flowers in Taiwan. In recent years, under the promotion of our government, flower seeing has become a trend in terms of local travelling. The picturesque scenes of flower blooming in the four seasons have created high profits of tourism. Therefore, we choose Taiwanese flowers as the theme of creation, utilizing illustration as the vessel to preserve the beauty of Taiwanese flowers.
The creation philosophy of this study came from literature review and analysis. Through the modernity and creativity of illustration, this study has established its significant contribution to the academia and offered its audience a brand new experience in visual imagination. The artistic presentation of flower and humanity relies on the variety of ways in form creation. This study vitalizes the beauty of flower through ways such as transformation, simplification, and exaggeration. The image of colorful flowers has been widely adopted on product design. In order to construct our creation elements, we compare and analyze the data of product designs which utilize the image of flowers. Through transformation, simplification, and exaggeration, the author utilizes the smooth lines of the characters in combination with the fancy colors of the backgrounds to expand the impact of the creation, inspiring flower lovers to examine the beauty of Taiwanese flowers from a brand new perspective. This creation intends to represent the spirit "one place, one flower and one characteristics", endowing Taiwanese flowers with new charisma and value.
