His family originated from Province of Guangdong Rau Pyng county, and is now the 6th generation living in Taiwan. Belonging to descendants of Hakka and have settled in Taichung county , ShyrGang town’s village of WannAn , Liou-Pey was a disciple of Shieh Lai-Fa in the early years . Following his apprenticeship, he began his own business in the painting of architectures for an astounding fifty-nine years. He obtains an irreplaceable status in the discipline of painting in central Taiwan. Through surveying and interviewing literatures, it has been learned that Liou-Pey currently have designed a total of fifty-four architecture buildings, mostly located in the northern and central part of the Hakka community. Although twenty-four buildings to which he has designed are now non-existent, twenty-seven of them are still preserved till this day. Three of the buildings which are not recorded under relevant literatures are Dongshi District Fushin temple, ChanghuaWusin temple, and Yunlin county Dounan Township Chern’s house. Liou-Pey’s paintings are both unique and recognizable, exemplifying themes from well-known stories and also those of his own creations. Furthermore, many of his works are based upon the theme of Chinese calligraphy, allowing his works to be more unique than others. Liou-Pey’s paintings also displays a wide variety, ranging from building painting、door plank painting to wall-paintings. Other works of art includes glass painting decorations、traditional Chinese paintings、religious rites paintings, which all demonstrates high attention to details within his use of colors and compostions. On September 21st, 2000, Taiwan experienced a severe earthquake, destroying many important building and architectures in Central Taiwan. As a result, many of Liou-Pey’s works were also destroyed. Due to the limited works which still remained, it is now highly important to gain knowledge of his works and to further preserve and study his works of art, thus contributing to the saving of traditional paintings.
