Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺灣藝術大學 === 雕塑學系碩士班 === 101 === Abstract
The creation concept for this study began from recycled PET bottles and the meaning of creation work was described. PET bottles were ground, melted, casted and shaped, which was a reprocessing procedure turning the plastic material into soft thread material for subsequent creation of serial work.
In this reuse procedure of found objects, the pyroplasticity features of PET bottles were explored; temperature was adjusted to control their pyroplasticity features for shaping the plastic material into braided, woven or stacked objects. This process also serves as a research for soft sculpture creation.
This thesis is in five chapters. In Chapter One-Introduction, the reason why PET bottles were chosen for soft sculpture creation was explained from perspectives of observation and contemplation about excessive material phenomenon in the consumption culture. In Chapter Two-PET Bottle and Modern Art, literature about processes of industrial production, manufacture, consumption and recycle for PET bottles and modern art history was reviewed. The development network for material and art was described first with found objects in Cubism and ready-made in Conceptual Art, and then with the impact on pop art and junk art by subsequent consumption culture. In Chapter Three-Soft Sculpture, how the shaping elements of soft sculpture were created from the media of recycled PET material was described. In Chapter Four-Creation Format And Concept, the changes in object value resulted from human nature were explored; Cyborg of Post-human society was selected as the representative of transformation in social form by technology to further discuss issues derived from human nature and body forms. Ideas in this study were summarized in Chapter Five-Summary for the continuation of future creation.
The four series of creation from 2010-2013,“Reuse”,“Existence”, “Emotion” and “Body”, were the major axis in this exploration for human emotional changes about plastic bottles and the possibility to use recycled material from PET bottles through physical labor. The meaning and value for the existence of objects were also clarified and realized in this study about sculpture creation.
