This research adopted national public information libraries as actual measured objects, using illuminometer and high dynamic range (HDR) photography for the measurement and analysis of luminous environment in various window types based on libraries in different window types and building seats in different seasons and sky conditions; finding out the connection between luminous environment and user behavior model through observing reader’s response to light distribution in various spaces. Additionally, light environment simulation conducted in actual measured space with physical simulation software shows the result in comparison with simulation and actual measurement that the feasibility of using light environment simulation when the design for the opening of building is irregular type. Regarding actual measurement of luminous environment, in the premise of same window size and location on the north side of building, uniformity of desk illumination will not be affected by season and climate, but distribution of desk illumination in other spaces is non-uniform, easily resulting in uncomfortable reading; additionally, part of the light will concentrate on the area by the window outward tilt, but most of the light will be distributed toward the ceiling. Therefore, direct light becoming diffused light through the reflection of the ceiling will be much available for user’s reading. Regarding luminous environment and user behavior observation, user even has significant feeling and response on large difference of change in short-term, but user’s habit has more feeling on the light changes than light distribution in the whole day. Regarding luminous environment simulation, the reason causing difference between simulated result and actual measurement may come from the factors that weather data cannot be used to accurately describe climatic conditions on the base and highly complicated distribution of the space. Irregular window size on the modeling will not affect modeling operation; however, window not located in vertical plane may cause broken hole on the model to affect simulation results. Therefore, this research come to a conclusion that architect should consider not only window type on the design of luminous environment, but also solargraphy through simulation software to analyze light distribution in different time, by which then can increase simulation result to be consistent with actual condition.
