碩士 === 實踐大學 === 家庭研究與兒童發展學系碩士班 === 101 === ABSTRACT Recently the comic books were accepted by the society. The purpose of the study is to explore the elderly’s image in the comic books by analyzing the series comic books of “Help Man”. The study adopted the method of content analysis and based on the Category List to analyze “themes” and “pictures” of the comic books. The major findings are as follows: in comic books of “Help Man”, the elderly’s images from appearance were shown as crippled, wrinkled and bald. Readers can recognize elderly by their appearance easily. The dementia elderly and the disable elderly were shown in needs of ADLs’ assistance. Meanwhile, the healthy elderly were described in situations of IADLs without assistance. From the inner feelings of the elderly, they would love to make a positive connection with others. However, when they are trying to contact others, the social environment doesn’t always treat them as friendly as they expected. This led the elderly feel frustrated. From the social support dimension, the society gives the elderly positive responses with “emotional supports” and “material supports”. According to the findings, the study gave following suggestions: the publics can read the series of “Help Man” to improve understanding of the aging agenda. The professional workers and related teachers can apply the comic books as case studies or teaching materials. Future topics of the comic books, especially on aging issues, can be focused on the psychological adaption of aging processes, aids’ application on aging live, and quality of life. Films can be the next interesting subject for analyzing the elderly’s image. Key word: comic books, elderly’s image, content analysis
