The class has seven boys and fifteen girls, making a total of twenty-two students who attended environmental education classes designed by the researcher. To meet the five main environmental goals of Grade 1-9 environmental education - “environmental awareness and sensitivity,” “knowledge of environmental concepts,” “environmental values and attitudes,” environmental action skills,” and “environmental action experiences” - the following picture books were chose for class use: “Alle Jahre wieder saust der Presslufthammer nieder oder die Veranderung der Landschaft,” “Winston of Churchill: One Bear`s Battle Against Global Warming,” “Brother Eagle, Sister Sky,” “Michael Bird Boy,” and “Welcome to our Home, Firefly.” Teaching methods for environmental education activities include reading of picture books, group discussion, completing worksheets, extension activities, and watching films. Data analysis for the study proceeded through checklists of teaching activities, reflective journal writing for teachers, learning sheets, and gathering of interview records, and produced the following findings: 1. “Alle Jahre wieder saust der Presslufthammer nieder oder die Veranderung der Landschaft” can inspire student’s “environmental awareness and sensitivity,” and enable students to attain one of the competence indicators of “environmental awareness and sensitivity” – observing ecological changes in the nearby environment. 2. “Winston of Churchill: One Bear’s Battle Against Global Warming” can strengthen students’ “knowledge of environmental concepts,” and enable students to attain one of the competence indicators of “knowledge of environmental concepts” III - learning about global environmental issues and their effects on human society and understanding related policy solutions. 3. “Brother Eagle, Sister Sky” can increase students’ “environmental values and attitudes,” and enable the students to achieve one of the competence indicators of “environmental values and attitudes” – respecting the attitudes and behaviors of different groups and cultures towards the environment. 4. “Michael Bird Boy” can allow students to express positive “environmental action skills,” and enable the students to achieve one of the competence indicators of “environmental action skills” – proposing concrete measures to improve the nearby environment. 5. “Welcome to our Home, Firefly” helps the positive development of students’ “environmental action experiences,” and enables students to attain one of the competence indicators of “environmental action experiences” – carrying out environmentally friendly actions. Picture books are used to guide environmental education and linked with articles related to environmental education in Chinese language textbooks, enabling broader and more in-depth learning. Picture books provide a high level of learning effectiveness for 5th Grade students. LIAO,SHAO-WEI LAI, WEN-LIANG 廖少威 賴文亮 2013 學位論文 ; thesis 115 zh-TW |

碩士 === 大仁科技大學 === 環境管理研究所 === 101 === The subjects for this study are from the 5th Grade Class 1 of Sinyuan
Elementary School, Pingtung Country. The class has seven boys and fifteen
girls, making a total of twenty-two students who attended environmental
education classes designed by the researcher.
To meet the five main environmental goals of Grade 1-9 environmental
education - “environmental awareness and sensitivity,” “knowledge of
environmental concepts,” “environmental values and attitudes,”
environmental action skills,” and “environmental action experiences” -
the following picture books were chose for class use: “Alle Jahre wieder
saust der Presslufthammer nieder oder die Veranderung der Landschaft,”
“Winston of Churchill: One Bear`s Battle Against Global Warming,”
“Brother Eagle, Sister Sky,” “Michael Bird Boy,” and “Welcome to our
Home, Firefly.” Teaching methods for environmental education activities
include reading of picture books, group discussion, completing worksheets,
extension activities, and watching films.
Data analysis for the study proceeded through checklists of teaching
activities, reflective journal writing for teachers, learning sheets, and
gathering of interview records, and produced the following findings:
1. “Alle Jahre wieder saust der Presslufthammer nieder oder die
Veranderung der Landschaft” can inspire student’s
“environmental awareness and sensitivity,” and enable students to
attain one of the competence indicators of “environmental
awareness and sensitivity” – observing ecological changes in the
nearby environment.
2. “Winston of Churchill: One Bear’s Battle Against Global
Warming” can strengthen students’ “knowledge of
environmental concepts,” and enable students to attain one of the
competence indicators of “knowledge of environmental concepts”
III
- learning about global environmental issues and their effects on
human society and understanding related policy solutions.
3. “Brother Eagle, Sister Sky” can increase students’
“environmental values and attitudes,” and enable the students to
achieve one of the competence indicators of “environmental values
and attitudes” – respecting the attitudes and behaviors of different
groups and cultures towards the environment.
4. “Michael Bird Boy” can allow students to express positive
“environmental action skills,” and enable the students to achieve
one of the competence indicators of “environmental action
skills” – proposing concrete measures to improve the nearby
environment.
5. “Welcome to our Home, Firefly” helps the positive development
of students’ “environmental action experiences,” and enables
students to attain one of the competence indicators of
“environmental action experiences” – carrying out
environmentally friendly actions.
Picture books are used to guide environmental education and linked with
articles related to environmental education in Chinese language textbooks,
enabling broader and more in-depth learning. Picture books provide a high
level of learning effectiveness for 5th Grade students.
