Berths are the most important, limited and hard to expand resource at a port. How to efficiently increase the throughput of a port by optimizing the utilization of the berths is a very important problem. This study therefore develops a deterministic optimization model to treat the problem. Comparing with heuristic approaches, the proposed method guarantees to obtain a global optimum. Several examples are also presented to demonstrate the usefulness of the proposed model. Numerical results reveal that the proposed model can effectively improve the utilization of the berths. 蔡榮發 2013 學位論文 ; thesis 42 zh-TW
