Phase array ultrasound system was used to generate local mechanical waves in the wall of an excised pig carotid artery. Identification of the different propagating modes in arterial wall can be used to characterize the elastic properties. This study provides an investigation with theoretical modeling and experimental measurements, quantitative assessment of arterial wall biomechanical properties. In clinical, a new technique has been proposed as an alternative to conventional extirpative treatment of varicose veins: Radio frequency ablation. In fact, the physician can not be quantitatively analyze the extent of vascular burning, only with experience. Fitting of a Lamb wave model estimated experimental measurements, Material parameters for the heated vascular samples are estimated with phase array measurements. The changes observed in the artery dispersion curves suggest that this methodology of exciting mechanical waves and characterizing the modes of propagation has potential for studying arterial elasticity.
