Summary: | 碩士 === 臺北市立教育大學 === 環境教育與資源研究所 === 101 === The Tatun Volcano Group is located adjacent to the Taipei metropolitan, the
political and economic center in northern Taiwan. Recent investigations based upon
the helium isotope analyses, earthquake monitoring, and the radiocarbon dating
indicate the existence of a magma reservoir under the volcanoes. The new findings
qualify the phenomenological definition of an active volcano by the International
Association of Volcanology and Chemistry of the Earth’s Interior (IAVCEI). Once it
erupts, the Tatun volcano could cause catastrophic effects to the densely populated
area of the Taipei.
Although the eruption frequency of the volcano is relatively low, the devastating
consequence of volcanic hazard has a severe impact to property and life of the
community. In 2011, the Tatun Volcano Observatory was established by the National
Science Council to monitor the long-term activity of the Tatun Volcanic Group.
However, the authorities poorly posed concerns about the measurement and
propaganda of the volcanic disaster prevention education. As an efficient
implementation of hazard mitigation could lead to minimize the damage, we conduct
this study to survey the hazard perception of the Beitou residents as the recently
emerged evidence and interpretation of the Tatun volcanic activity.
This study aims to understand that the variation in people’s different attitudes
and behaviors when facing volcanic disaster depends on their different backgrounds,
as well as the relation between attitudes and facing risks. In this study, questionnaire
for residents living in Beitou District, Taipei City, and over the age of 20 to conduct
research, issued a total of 450 questionnaires, 384 questionnaires were reclaim.
The results of this study shown:
1. Residents of the Beitou area concern and worry about volcanic hazard
potential risks. Among the related units of hazards management, they
have more confidence in the scientists and experts of volcanic hazards.
2. More than half of Beitou residents get disaster information by watching
TV and surfing the Internet.
3. People who had ever affected by disaster and who had accepted
propaganda activities or educational training of natural hazards
prevention would be more actively cooperate to guard against hazards.
4. There is positive correlation between the attitude and behavior in facing
volcanic disaster. It could infer that people’s strain behavior depends on
how much attention they pay on it.
The results of this study show that there is a positive impact on people's
preparedness against volcanic eruption because of propaganda activities and
educational training of disaster prevention. In the other words, more propaganda
activities bring more preparedness behavior. For the purpose of reducing the disaster,
it is necessary to plan a preparedness work against volcanic disaster, though there is
never happen volcanic eruption in Taiwan. Implementation of propaganda activities
and educational training of hazards prevention to publics is the lowest cost way
replaced by direct harm experience.
