Description
Summary:碩士 === 大同大學 === 化學工程學系(所) === 101 === The dehydration and etherification reactions of glycerol with n-butyl using Amberlyst 70 acid catalyst were performed. Using commercial standards and the databank of NIST as the references, the components of the product mixture identified using GC and GC/MS contained 1-butene (1B), n-butanol (NB), di-n-butyl ether (DBE), 1-Sec-butoxybutane (SBOB), mono n-butyl glycerol ethers (MBGEs), di-n-butyl glycerol ethers (DBGEs), glycerol (GLY) and water. 9% water in the product mixture was reduced to 0.15% using the Dean-Stark apparatus. The cetane number (CN) of the resulting organic product was estimated to be higher than 60 using the known values of CN for DBE and NB (95 and 18 respectively) and the estimated CN value for ethers (around 60) and can be used as a diesel additive. The highest conversion of glycerol (98%) was achieved at the operating conditions were at 4:1 molar ratio of n-butanol to glycerol, temperature 200℃, 10 hours, catalyst 10 wt% of the loaded glycerol.
