The content of the book of “acrostic poems” comprises 11 themes, including I) People related theme, II)Numbers, time, sizes & measurements, III) Food and drinks, IV) Goods and colors, V) School related theme, VI) Places, locations, transportation, houses & apartments, VII) Holidays & festivals, VIII) Nature and animals related theme, IX) Parts of speech, X) Zodiac animals, and XI) Taiwanese Gods &Goddess. Moreover, 26 different subthemes which tie up with daily themes are included in this design. Furthermore, 208 target words which are based on the 2,000 basic English word list published by Taiwan’s Ministry of Education in 2003 are classified accordant with 11 themes, 26 subthemes and three different levels. A 200-minute pilot study of acrostic poem writing activity aimed at facilitating 58 participants’ ( 31 elementary school students, 15 junior high school students and 12 senior high school students) vocabulary learning and sentence writing. The reliability of the questionnaire for the pilot study with Cronbach’s alpha .968 which was revised base on Chen’s(2009a) questionnaire with Cronbach’s alpha .79, was used to evaluate the effectiveness of the designed acrostic poem writing activity for vocabulary learning and sentence writing, participants' preference towards the activity, English vocabulary learning methods and their feedback on the activity.
