Industrial computers developed from the industrial touch domain in the past have become industrial computers intended for the niche markets. Considering the hardware and software needed under machine tool intellectualization, what is the role of industrial computers? The results show that: 1. The development of intelligent machine tools is headed toward the trend of semiautomatic→automatic→unmanned factory, while the intelligent machine tool manufacturers’ development direction is guided by “external intelligence.” 2. The analysis of the value of external machine tool-based Industrial computers shows that they are not price competitive, as the core competencies lie in quality excellence, long supply periods, and strong customization capabilities. 3. In the machine tool industry, concentration and differentiation are the main competitive strategies for industrial computers. With the focus on the competitive strategies of machine tool external intelligence-based industrial computers, the recommendations proposed in this study are as follows: 1. The business aspect: Engage in deep-plowing operations. 2. The product aspect: Develop products in line with machine tool niche markets. 3. Software development: Complete complementary hardware and software testing. 4. Total solution provided: Integrate the hardware and software targeting the small machine tool manufacturers.
