With the concern that children nowadays gradually lose their childlike naivete, this project of illustrations aims to arouse public’s awareness of preserving childhood by reflecting the “adultification”of children and presenting their twisted childhood. The first part of my research is a literary review of illustration development, followed by a definition of fantastic art using concepts of art , literature, and films, and a categorization of illustration samples on the basis of the definition. Next, I take advantage of a combinition of teaching records and interviews with children to sketch illustrations, using well-known fairy tales as background stories. I modify some fairy tales according to the influence of social information on modern children. By the use of visual literacy, I communicate with my audience and express my concerns on childen educaion and social environment change, as well as my reflection on the develpoment of Taiwan. The aim of this project is to define fantastic illustration and to provide a reference for future illustrators to further explore and reserach on this field. Regardless of the changing condition of childhood from time to time, this project ponders on modern children’s future and tries to inspire people’s reminiscence of thier childhood by illustrations.
