Summary: | 碩士 === 國立雲林科技大學 === 漢學資料整理研究所碩士班 === 101 === During the period of Japanese, Zhang Wenhuan was a writer who pursued self-positioning and showed concern constantly by means of novels. He depicted men from his hometown to express various anguish and contradiction suffered by men in their lives at that time. Such theme took an important part in Zhang’s works. However, up to now, relevant research on depiction of men in novels by Zhang Wenhuan was stilled relegated to the category of things unknown in our country. Therefore, depiction of men in novels by Zhang Wenhuan was taken as the subject of this paper and was also the research motivation of this paper.
In this paper, the author of this paper started writing from four aspects- living background of the writer, depiction of male characters in novels, artistic characteristics and ideological implication. The author firstly discussed about the background which was formed on the basis of Zhang Wenhuan’s life and his experience in literature as well as creative concept; secondly, the author divided male characters in his text into minorities and intellectual class so as to discuss about their image characteristics and approaches taken by different social classes to cope with difficulties; and then, the author discussed about the strong realistic style present in depicting male characters of Zhang’s novels, and his implicit criticism based on virtuousness and sincereness which was a unique art feature; finally, the author sorted out the ideological implication of getting rid of predicament, implicit criticism and constructing new Taiwan culture which were intended to be presented by Zhang Wenhuan through depicting male characters in novels.
All in all, this paper was aimed to explore the ideological implication contained in it through analyzing depiction of men shown in Zhang Wenhuan’s works, and in the hope of obtaining a further understanding and a better grasp of works of Zhang Wenhuan.
