Summary:碩士 === 國立中正大學 === 犯罪防治研究所 === 102 === This study aims to investigate reasons and coping strategies to elementary school teacher’s perception of parent-teacher conflicts. Purposes of this study are to explore elementary school teachers’ perception of parent-teacher conflicts and their causes, and analyze these teachers’ coping strategies and influences generated after these conflicts. This study adopted a qualitative approach and conducted one-on-one semi-structured in-depth interviews with elementary school teachers from 6 cities in Taiwan. This research found that reasons of elementary school teacher’s perception of parent-teacher conflicts include: different educational principles between teachers and parents, parents’ mistrust of teacher’s profession, student’s poor learning performance, parents’ disagreement of assignments, parents’ emphasis on student’s grades, lack of respect between teachers and parents, different standards between teachers and parents, parents’ heeding only student’s quotes, poor teacher-parent communication , different discipline principles between teachers and parents, parent’s avoidance to face student’s problem, ambiguity in responsibilities between teachers and parents, parents’ over protection to students, parents’ justification for student’s wrong behavior, and teacher’s emotional mismanagement. Teachers’ coping strategies to parent-teacher conflicts in elementary schools include: improving professional knowledge, adapting teaching method to students’ needs, providing remedial actions, assisting parents personally, promoting children to learn actively, insisting educational philosophy, keeping requirements reasonable and flexible, making clear class rules, making the most of parent-teacher conferences, inviting parents to join activities, allowing students to learn from life experiences, keeping good partnership with parents, maintaining smooth communication with parents, clarifying misunderstanding actively, always keeping record, adapting passive strategies, and seeking help from a 3rd party.
