The research questions are as follows: 1. What are the stages and processes being an international youth volunteer? 2. What are the leaning connotations for international youth volunteers in each stage of the LPP? The study adopted a qualitative research with semi-structured interviews, with six new and three experienced community members as interviewees. The research results are as follows: 1. There are four stages, including training and observation, continuous engagement, community recognition and core assimilation stages, in the LPP of international youth volunteers. 2. Learning connotations in each stage appear mainly in informal forms of learning; however, in the training and observation stage, new participants mainly rely on the training programs designed by experienced participants to equip themselves with necessary knowledge and skills. This part may supplement the importance of formal education ignored by Lave and Wenger in the early years. 3. LPP and the learning process involve mostly the interaction with community partners and then the interaction with contexts. As emphasized by Lave and Wenger, learning is definitely not simply about migration and assimilation but exists in the interactions with other community members.
