Description
Summary:碩士 === 長庚科技大學 === 護理研究所在職專班 === 102 === Patients with precancerous lesions to oral cancer may have insufficient knowledge, poor attitudes, ineffective oral cancer prevention behaviors, uncertainty, anxiety, and unmet information needs during the diagnostic period. The purpose of this study was to determeine the effectiveness of case management on knowledge, attitudes, cancer prevention behavior, uncertainty, anxiety and information needs in patients with precancerous lesions to oral cancer during the diagnosed period. An experimental, repeated measures design with an intervention and comparison groups research design was conducted at departments of orolaryngology in a medical center in centeral Taiwan. Patients were assessed using a set of questionnaires, including background information form, Knowledge of Oral Cancer Scale (KOCS), Attitudinal of Oral Cancer Scale(AOCS), Prevention Behaviors of Oral Cancer Scale (PBOCS), Mishel Uncertainty in Illness Scale for Community(MUIS -C), Cancer Needs Questionnaire-information needs subscale, and State Anxiety Scale(SAS). Data were analyzed using IBM SPSS version 21.0 (Armonk, NY, USA). Descriptive statistics, independent t-test and paried t-test were used. One hundred twenty oral cancer patients were recruited in this study. A total of 106 subjects participated in the study, with 54 in the experimental group and 52 in the control group. This study showed that case management model can achieve the following: (1) enhaced knowledge and preventive behaviors in patients with precancerous lesions to oral cancer; (2) improved uncertainty and information needs in patients with precancerous lesions to oral cancer; (3) increased knoweldge and decreased state anxiety in experimental group, without statistical significantly between the experimental group and control group. This study showed that case management model can improve knowledge, preventive behaviors, decresased uncertainty, and information needs. The case management model provided a clinical care reference for patients with precancerous lesions to oral cancer and comprehensive quality of care for such patients.
