Description
Summary:碩士 === 長庚大學 === 醫務管理學系 === 102 === Since 1984, the total fertility rate in Taiwan plummeted under the replacement level. Among the many reasons of fertility decline, it appears the induced abortion has contributed significantly to it. This paper aims at exploring the probability of induced abortion among the married women, and how it changes across the time. Based on a series of Surveys on “Knowledge, Attitude and Practice of Contraception” (KAP) pertaining to married women in 1973, 1980, 1986, 1998, 2004, and 2008, we found the married women who had given birth, in poor education, with boy offspring tended to effect higher probability of induced abortion, while those who have previously given birth to 3 girls tend to significantly reduce the probability. But the effect of previous birth experience generating induced abortion has gradually reduced over the time. Poor education tended to effect higher probability of induced abortion during the earlier periods, gradually the higher probability shifted to the better educated ones. Taiwan has surfaced as one of the countries experiencing the lowest-low fertility, the proper regulation of induced abortion is becoming a critical issue to be addressed.
