ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study is to discuss the elementary school teachers’ perception of benefits and local identity regarding the 2013 Taiwan Lantern Festival in Hsinchu, as well as the influences of the perception of the benefits of the 2013 Taiwan Lantern Festival on local identity. Adopting the method of stratified samp-
ling and the standard of number of school classes,we distributed 400 copies of the questionnaire among the the elementary school teachers in Hsinchu City, and 365 valid copies were retrieved, yielding a valid retrieve rate of 91.3%. The findings yielded by statistical analyses are as follows:
(1)The teachers’ perception of the benefits of the 2013 Taiwan Lantern Festival was moderate/high.
(2) The teachers’ sense of local identity generated by the 2013 Taiwan Lantern Festival was moderate/high.
(3) The teachers have no significant differences in the perception of the benefits of the Festival in terms of all the different background variables.
(4) The teachers have significant differences in the overall local identity generated by the Festival in terms of their different variables of visiting the Festival or not, years of teaching, role in school and the living time in Hsinchu.
(5) The teachers’ perception of the benefits of the Festival has significant influences on their sense of local identity.
