Description
Summary:碩士 === 華梵大學 === 哲學系碩士班 === 102 === Physical education is an important part of the five dimensions of education, which are moral education, intellectual education, physical education, sociable education and artistic education. The purpose of physical education is to train students to become strong healthy persons of noble character. In Taiwan, students in an advanced physical education class are gifted in sports. However, these students are constantly under pressure because of various reasons such as sports competition, schoolwork performance and career development. On top of that, teachers tend to be extremely strict with the students, and ask them to be totally obedient, which may also do harm to these athletes physically and mentally. Faced with this situation, we need to re-examine the purpose and the value of physical education. We also need to have a thorough understanding of the overview of the real situations in the classroom today, so that we can know what problems teachers may be encountering while they are teaching elementary school PE classes. Ethics of care proposed by Nel Noddings emphasizes the importance of cultivation of emotion and relationship building. The theory also respects every individual’s differences. In her opinion, the purpose of education is to enable people to become a person who is capable to love others, and at the same time is worthy of being loved. In Taiwan, this is the area for improvement for teachers teaching elementary school PE classes. Physical education and character education should work side by side. Ethics of care places great emphasis on the communication of emotion and the development of students’ character, which are the two major characteristics that teachers should value in the teaching process. This paper attempts to integrate Nel Noddings’ ethics of care and her methods for moral education into teaching elementary school PE classes. With the combination of these two theories, I hope to find a different direction for teaching elementary school PE classes. I also hope that, under the guidance of teachers, students can find great pleasure in participating in PE class, and learn how to be a person with a caring, noble personality through various physical activities. Furthermore, I hope that students can take a caring attitude towards life, and practice what they have learned from school in their everyday life.
