碩士 === 玄奘大學 === 應用外語學系碩士班 === 102 === For the purpose of improving students’ reading interest and comprehension, this study recruits twenty-seven gifted elementary school students as participants. It uses action research to implement literature circle teaching strategy in Chinese reading instruction. Those students are all in a K-4 class with the author as the homeroom teacher. This study adopts questionnaires, worksheets, individual interviews, presentation of student works, reflection and making records on teaching to collect and analyze data. The purpose of this study is to investigate effects of literature circle in reading instruction for gifted students. The results show that the literature circle works for improving students’ reading interest and comprehension. Students in this study enjoy the participation of group discussion and extending activities. Finally, this author offers suggestions of Chinese reading instruction for gifted students in elementary schools and future studies.
