DC is widely distributed in certain areas of Asia and is very popular in vegetarian cuisine in Taiwan. Gynura Bicolor, a perennial plant in Pingtung、 Keelung of Taiwan, is a folk medicine in China1~3. The antioxidant activity and treatment of liver diseases have been reported4~7. Furthermore, G. bicolor DC are used as a recipe to treat diabetes mellitus (anti-hyperglycemia) in some parts of China8~10. In our studies, we have isolated 7 components from this plant, and then we have found that 7 materials have potent activity in a cytotoxicity screening program against K562 (a leukemia cell) and MCF-7 (a breast cancer cell) cancer cell lines in vitro.. Whether the cytotoxic activity will increase or decrease depends on what we add to the side chain. We hope that we can make better cytotoxicity on sinapic acid by replacing the carboxylic group11. We designed on the basis of six ring or six heterocyclic ring12~15 to react with sinapic acid, such as 2-aminopyridine、4-aminopyridine and totally 5 synthetic compounds. We compared the 7 materials isolated from Gynura bicolor with the 5 compounds we have synthesized. They showed much better activity . We hope we can get these compounds by various methods. As a result, our components and semi-synthetic products demonstrate different outcome about their cytotoxic activity. Mei-Ing-Chung 鍾美英 2014 學位論文 ; thesis 72 zh-TW
