| Summary: | 碩士 === 崑山科技大學 === 媒體藝術研究所 === 102 === There are lots of media format today, including texts, films, television and the most modern electronic format. In the past, researchers mainly studied a single format of media. But with constant updating, the researchers need a broader vision in order to observe the changes that come about due to the rapid growth and transformations of media. The biggest challenge in cross-media research lies in the independent approaches within each format of media. Before, there were some connections between the literary study and the film study. But, inevitably, they became two separate individual format studies at the end . This research will focus on a single media format: the text. From observing its evolution and development, one can gain a perspective of how the social and cultural interactions formulated the text.
The text from the "Five Rats legend" was selected as the focus for this primal research. It first appeared in the “Grotesque” type of literature in the Ming Dynasty. In and after the Qing Dynasty, it evolved into the “Judge Bao Chivalric” type of novel form. Upon the arrival of contemporary films and television, it also appeared in the movie and TV series in the script format. Nowadays, it also shows up in the PC-games and online-games.
