Hence it is necessary for food companies to identify their strength and effectively allocate their resources so as to bolster their competitive advantage. Targeting the long-term investment of Taiwan's food companies and their ongoing efforts to reduce costs and boost operational performance to enhance profitability, this study attempts to evaluate the investment and operational performances of food companies in Taiwan using the DEA (data envelopment analysis) model. This study includes all food companies listed on Taiwan Stock Exchange or Gretai Securities Market, a total of 13 companies as study samples, and uses fixed assets, operating costs, and current assets as input variables, and operating revenue and after-tax net income as output variables. The data for input variables are obtained from the annual financial reports of the sample companies. The study finds that food companies originally with better performance include Wei Chuan,Uni-President, AGV, TTET Union, Lian Hwa, and Hey-Song. Assuming the overall efficiency at the year of study is 1, it means a company's return to scale in the year is in a constant state. On a year-on-year basis, On the other hand, companies that did not have outstanding operational performance may see their competitiveness increase due to rise in overall efficiency. The methodology employed and basic framework established by this study can offer the management analytical method and suggestions for assessing and choosing the proper approach for them to carry out effective performance evaluation Chia Nan Wang, Ph.D 王嘉男 2014 學位論文 ; thesis 52 zh-TW
