It is commonly used for cutting parts of aerospace industry. The aim of this thesis is mainly focused on the cutting technology development of Nickel-base alloy 718 via the systematical evaluation of cutting experiment. The research results are helpful to the selection of the proper cutting tools and the corresponding cutting conditions, such as spindle speeds and feed rates. A standard CNC machine center with hard-rail of machine axis slides was adopted to carry out the cutting experiments using a SECO cutting tool (suitable cutting speed 15-30m/min). CutPro software was adopted to predict the cutting forces in case of fail cutting tests when the cutting conditions are unable to be finished. There are 9 sets of cutting tests for the cutting condition evaluations. The experimental results had shown that cutting forces were increased with increasing of the feed per tooth due to the increase of chip thickness and shear strain energy. The increase of cutting depth can raise the material removal rate but also results in higher cutting force. Using low spindle speed (600 RPM) to cut Inconel-718 will be impossible if the feed per tooth exceed 0.08mm or the axial cutting depth higher than 3 mm. The reason is the forced vibration of tool results in fast tool wear and accumulating of cutting heat on tool. The cutting experiments showed the unit cutting forces should be limited under 900 N/m in order to obtain stable cutting condition. Keywords: manufacturing of aerospace materials, hard-to-cut material machining, INCONEL-718, stable cutting Dr. Jinn Jang Sheu 許進忠博士 2014 學位論文 ; thesis 127 zh-TW
