The present stage of the defense policy contains seven major operation objectives, which include constructing a dependable combat power, showing determination to defend and maintain regional stability, consolidating the spirit of combat power, strengthening disaster prevention and response, promoting recruiting system and optimizing soldiers’ well-being. In response to the global trend and available defense resources, the military continues its commitment to reform, strike a balance between the forces of modernization and streamlining of the military, build a "small but exquisite, small but powerful, small and clever" national defense force to meet all kind of challenges. In the future, our national defense will aim at “key army force establishment" instead of a "balanced army" concept, this idea is based on the principle of "unifying powers while specializing professions.” In recent years, our military has encountered extreme challenges as the results of recruiting system reform, reorganization of military man power, implementation of all-volunteer force policy and streamlining military organization…etc. Recruiting all-volunteer soldiers, especially, is a stern task. The lack of entry-level military personnel is severe, and the problem will only get worse as no one to succeed work experience and knowledge. Today, while new generation weapon equipment has joined the combat, the military is in urgent need to have long-term high-tech professionals to join the force. As the fact, it is crucial not only to recruit soldiers who are well-equipped with professional knowledge and have good quality, but how to attract these soldiers to stay in service is even more important. Therefore, this study is to investigate the factors of volunteer soldiers, including their personality traits, compensation and benefits, job satisfaction and willingness to stay in military service.
