Although the English instruction in Taiwan’s elementary schools is deeply influenced by Communcative Language Teaching (CLT); however, students’ performance on English learning motivation has continued to be far below expectations. Some studies have shown that cross-cultural experiences may motivate the students’ English learning. Therefore, this study attempted to explore the effects of intergrating cross-cultural communcation into English instruction on elementary school students’ English motivation. A class of 5th graders participated in this 17-week English experimental program. Five instruments were employed, consisting of a questionnaire of attitudes toward English learning, a questionnaire of attitudes toward intergrating cross-cultural communication into English instruction , interviews, activity sheets, and self-examination sheets. The results of the study showed that intergrating cross-cultural communication into English instruction could improve elementary school students’ English learning motivation and it was also positively accepted by the students.
