Description
Summary:碩士 === 美和科技大學 === 健康照護研究所 === 102 === Background: Nutrition is essential to patients, malnutrition increases treatment complications and prolongs hospitalization as well as increase the cost of treatment. For patients with cancer, especially leukemia patients, nutrition plays an important role. Purpose: This study aims to assess nutritional status in adult patients with leukemia. Methods: Descriptive cross sectional study of adult patients with acute leukemia treated with chemotherapy from May, 2013 to October, 2013. Initial nutritional status was evaluated based on standard SGA and outcome was evaluated based on WHO criteria. Results: Researcher assesses nutritional status of 103 patients before their leukemia treatment (Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML): Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL) is 1.6: 1). The nutritional status of these objects is being assessed immediately before chemotherapy regimen by two methods: Body Mass Index (BMI) and Subjective Global Assessment (SGA); results of chemotherapy and length of hospital stay were recorded. The percentage of male and female were even, the average age of the study was 36.16 years old. The rate of malnutrition assessed by SGA was higher than assessed by BMI (32 % versus 20.4 %). Results in remission were 85.4 % and the average length of stay was 29.67 days. Not enough evidence to confirm that the differences in results between the two chemotherapy groups malnutrition and good nutrition but the length of hospitalization in malnourished group was longer than group that are not malnourished (33 days versus 28 days). Conclusion: This study showed that the rate of malnutrition in patients with acute leukemia is quite high and initially reflects the relationship between nutritional status and clinical outcomes.
