Hypertension is the largest risk factor for cardiovascular diseases, growing in prevalence and poorly controlled virtually everywhere. The problem of non-adherence to medical treatment remains a challenge for the medical professions and social scientists. This thesis aims to survey factors associated with antihypertensive medication adherence in Vietnamese police officers with hypertension. The patients were interviewed researchers directly collect information on family factors, social work, medial history and answer the questions in the questionnaire prepared. Method of face-to-face interviews, Participants were asked to self-administer about 30–40 minutes to complete. Collect data about demographics, perceived susceptibility to specific diseases, perceived susceptibility in general, perceived benefits of Vietnamese herbs in general, perceived barriers of Vietnamese herbs in general perceived benefits of Western medications for HTN, health-related social support and social support in general. Results: Study subjects were male majority, with 82%. In that, 89% have aged from 46 to 60. There were 64% of the total sample which had antihypertensive medication adherence, however 53% had HTN controlled. Four of 12 variables were statistically associated with medication adherence: higher perceived susceptibility to specific disease [OR=1.38 (95%CI, 1.16-1.65)], higher perceived benefit of western medications for HTN [OR=1.82 (95%CI, 1.17-2.84)], longer length of HTN diagnosis [OR=1.33 (95%CI, 1.06-1.66)], and higher number of prescribes that the patients take on a regular basis for more than one month [OR=2.94 (95%CI, 1.12-7.69]. Conclusion: There were four variables which had relationships with medication adherence of the patients, including perceived susceptibility to specific disease, perceived benefit of western medications for HTN, long length of HTN diagnosis and number of prescribes that the patients take on a regular basis for more than one month. Key words: antihypertensive medication, adherence, hypertension Shiow-Li Hwang 黃秀梨 2014 學位論文 ; thesis 92 zh-TW
