This paper uses the concept of automotive computers, using the architecture of embedded systems make it mount on locomotive. The purpose of this study is to allow the driver sit on the driver seat, and monitor the system in order to grasp the state of locomotive. When the locomotive is on driving, the driver can deal with unexpected situations of locomotive by using the monitoring system. Using this system can immediately provide driver solutions in the shortest possible time, so that the driver can solve the problem efficiently when the situation occurs. This system consists of DDU (Data Display Unit) and DAS (Data Acquisition System), each a Linux embedded system, and communicate with each other via the intranet. DAS and DDU hardware architecture of this research is the Intel Atom N270 central processor hardware to do, and have 2G of memory and 32G hard disk space, about the operating systems, DDU using Fedora Linux 16, DAS using Fedora 10. This paper presents a Railway Monitoring and Assistance System to assist the driver and dispatcher monitoring peripheral devices on the locomotive, each device has a screen to monitor, through this system, the driver and dispatcher can use to monitor the locomotive in a faster and more efficient way.
