In recent years, TFT-LCD manufacturers receive more orders within a short period than before. Merging and expanding is an effective ways to enhance their competitive advantages and increase their revenues. Manufacturers who expand their business for multi-site operation would consider important factors, such as site balancing, resource sharing, and allocation planning. Most TFT-LCD manufacturers currently use the rule of thumb to deal with multi-site operation issues, such as how to achieve high utilization with aims to minimize the cost and obtain the optimal allocation plan under multi-site operations. This study uses linear programming to solve the problem of multi-site operations in the TFT-LCD industry, and proposes a strategy, in which cost and profit would have the same impact on the firm, to be realistically performed in the TFT-LCD industry.
