Summary:博士 === 國立成功大學 === 建築學系 === 102 === The regeneration of the historical area is to conserve and regenerate the integrated environment emphasized by the spirit of place varying in time and the social and cultural mechanism within. However, the promotions in Taiwan confronts with the issues: (1) the environment lacking of the integration and the contemporary living functions, (2) the unsustainable regenerative work, and (3) the weak relationship between local residents and historical environments. International references of UNESCO and ICOMOS highlight the participation of the local residents, expected to combine with the social relationship and to interpret cultural significance of the cultural heritage that is support to integrate into the whole environment with contemporary and varied living functions. By participant observation of the practice of the Tainan-old-city projects and activities, this research proposed the possible alternatives and the limits of the regeneration of the historical area participated by local organizations.
