In order to solve signal strength problem when the user equipment (User Equipment, UE) located at the edge of the signal converge of the LTE base station (Evolved Node, eNB) a new entity called relay node (Relay Node, RN) was introduced in LTE-Advanced by 3GPP. RN has low-power, low-cost features, and can be used to enlarge the eNB radio signal coverage. This thesis will focus on RN operating in High Speed Rail (HSR) train to serve high-speed rail passengers. First of all, RN becomes moveable when equipped in HSR carriage. Thus, we called this moveable RN as Mobile RN (MRN). When users get on the HSR, user ’ sUEs will automatically set up their connections to HSR’ s MRN. However, when users left the HSR, the conventional handoff mechanism may spend too much time to detect user’ s leaving. The thesis proposes a novel handoff mechanism based on prediction. In order to detect user ’ s movement, this thesis uses a geolocation based method. W e can execute pre-handover procedure for UEs based on their movement prediction. The thesis designs a group verticel handover mechanism to achieve dispersion of the handover signal that can provide better signal quality and seamless handover between station eNB and HSR MRN.
