Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立彰化師範大學 === 統計資訊研究所 === 102 === Abstract According to the data of the National Health Council in 2007, the menopause of women occurs normally at 45-52. There are about 85% of American female experiencing menopausal vasomotor symptoms. Although the popular hormone replacement therapy can ease some symptoms of menopause, related studies also show that it might lead to carcinogenic concerns. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been shown having treatment effect for menopausal symptoms in clinical trials11; however, it is lack of a more objective statistical analysis for the treatment effect of TCM. In this thesis, we use some well-known statistical and clustering approaches to analyze the TCM treatment effect for the alleviation of menopausal vasomotor symptoms. This study recruits 31 patients at age 45-65, who are diagnosed with vasomotor symptoms at least six months and have not taken any hormone therapy. The patients were asked to fill out the Greene Climacteric Scale (GCS), to take their tongue image by Automatic Tongue Diagnosis System, and to measure their heart rate variability (HRV), before and after taking Chinese medicine including, Zhibai Dihuang Wan, Danggui Liuhuang Tang, and Jiawei Xiaoyao San for 4 weeks. Concerning HRV, both of t-test and logistic regression show that, the index HF% and LF/HF have significant change after TCM intervention. Moreover, according to the result of principal component analysis, except for HF% and LF/HF, other variables had “negative” influence in the decrease of the scores of GCS after the TCM treatments. We also conduct non-metric multiple dimensional scaling (MDS) and K-Means clustering to try to discriminate between the patients before and after TCM treatments. However, the clustering is not significant. Finally, paired-t test for the difference of the scores of GCS before and after TCM treatments are conducted to evaluate the treatment effect. We found that TCM treatments have a significant effect of curing the patients with some symptoms of menopause in this study.
