In Taiwan, 20% of the population aged 40 years and over has high blood pressure (BP); one in every five people suffers from high BP and the proportion becomes greater as the age increases. According to the statistics of the Department of Health in 2012 in Taiwan, hypertension was the eighth cause of death and more than 4,000 people died of it in one year. Far-infrared rays (FIR) are a region in the infrared spectrum of electromagnetic radiation. FIR is often well-defined as any radiation with a wavelength of 4 µm to 1 mm. Several studies have investigated the use of infrared saunas in the treatment of chronic health problems, especially in 4μm ~ 14μm, such as high BP, congestive heart failure and rheumatoid arthritis, and discovered some evidence of benefit. However, winder and more-strict researches are necessary to proof these results. In this study, we want to figure out whether FIR can decrease hypertension blood pressure in spontaneous hypertensive rats (SHR). We expected that FIR boards can decrease BP and reduce expression of angiotensin II (Ang II) in SHR rats. And the difference of surface paint quantity FIR board can not effect BP in SHR rats, We fed SHR rats and assorted them into four different groups: control, FIR board, antihypertensive drug (atenolol), FIR board plus drug, to progress later experiment. We measured BP or inject atenolol every day for three weeks. We found that BP and blood angiotensin II concentrations of rats on FIR board was lower than control groups. And the FIR paint quantity was not effect the BP in SHR rats. This evidence demonstrated that FIR can decrease hypertension blood pressure in SHR rats. The combination of FIR and Atenolol can make blood pressure lower in SHR rats. Chen Cheng-Nan 陳政男 學位論文 ; thesis 0 zh-TW
