In this paper, a non-parametric method—the data envelopment analysis (DEA) model—is introduced to measure relative efficiency and productivity for healthcare companies. The Metafrontier Malmquist-Luenberger (MML) Productivity Index proposed by Oh (2010) and three strategies (termed “No Good Output Growth”, “Max Good Output Growth”, and “Good Output Only”) introduced by Arcelus and Arocena (2005) are both measured with respect to the undesirable (bad) output. The results show that most healthcare companies should adopt “Max Good Output Growth”, and “Health Care Equipment &; Services” companies may pinch their inputs and do better the tradeoffs between net sales and total emissions.
