Providing the first feeding larvae with suitable prey are one of the major constrains in larviculture. In this study, we controlled the nutrient concentrations and N:P ratio in the water by adding inorganic nitrogen and phosphorus to raise marine ornamental fish larvae hatched from the eggs collected from National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium. The objective is to enhance the growth of small phytoplankton that would stimulate the growth of small zooplankton which would provide the larvae with a variety of food. In the experimental group, we maintained nitrogen and phosphorus at 700 μg N L-1 and 100 μg P L-1, respectively, whereas in the control we provide fish larvae with rotifer. The results showed that the dissolved oxygen, chl a (both >20μm and 0.45~20μm), the nutrient concentrations, and larval fish survival were significantly higher in the experimental group than the control. It suggested that using the inorganic fertilization method can enhance the phytoplankton and zooplankton growth which will enhance the survival of the marine ornamental fish larvae in the aquarium setting.
