However, HEVC greatly increases the computational complexity at the video encoder. Therefore, efficient transcoding algorithms to enable HEVC applications are highly desired. In this thesis, we investigate the relationship of prediction mode, motion vector and residual information between H.264/AVC and HEVC, and propose an efficient algorithm on fast decision of coding unit and prediction unit for the video transcoding from H.264/AVC to HEVC. In addition, we also utilize the motion vector and motion vector difference decoded from H.264/AVC bit-stream to reduce the search range of motion estimation in HEVC encoder and thus further reduce coding complexity. Experimental results show that our proposed transcoding algorithm can provide better rate distortion performance and time saving than previous work. Mei-Juan Chen 陳美娟 2014 學位論文 ; thesis 137
