Cottonseed oil includes gossypol and it has toxicities, if we ate gossypol for a long time, it would cause citizen not easily to birth the baby. Therefore, we proposed that two kinds of methods respectively. Experiment studies put forward two ways to test known as 100% edible oil of pure oil, whether the illegal doping of cottonseed oil and to compare the results of two kinds studies. First, the research methods were utilized Snell’s law to measure a series of refractive index of the fake oil, and these methods could get each liquid of the figure of refractive index, and judge it according to the figure. Secondly, the research method was to use the grating as the detection, we would use fiber Bragg grating (FBG) and long period grating (LPG) as sensing element, using the two kinds of the elements to make FBG and LPG sensor to test a series of the fake oil. LPG sensor would use the technique of hydrofluoric acid solution, and to compare the sensitivity of etching and unetching. In experimental studies, we could know that the technique of etching to let the elements of grating were more suitable for detection the edible oil. The merchants in order to reduce the cost of pure oil, they would usually be large quantity to adulterate cottonseed oil in pure oil. Therefore, design grating sensor of high sensitivity to detect doping concentration of cottonseed oil, and concentration of the detection range of 5% ~ 50%. Utilize liquid ingredient or concentration when there is a change in, through optical spectrum analyzer (OSA) to observe the wavelength drift or the change of output power so that could calculate to adulterate the concentration of cottonseed oil. Grating sensor could get the detection results very quickly, and there is no need the professional’s analysis, grating sensor compare with high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and liquid chromatograph tandem mass spectrometer (LC-MS-MS), the cost was lower and the making was simple.
